Philosophy and history of origins

Our philosophy is based on simple principles as faith, benevolence, honesty, gentleness, assiduity and tidiness. These are not criteria that a society or person can claim but characteristics that should be part of every human being. And that’s what we want to show with our behaviour. We know that people with a friendly smile and a nice conversation in the daily grind can have much more friends and we hope to fulfil the expectations of our customers with this philosophy.

My brothers Ilhan and Osman Halis were born in Görele, a region in the middle of Blacksea Province Giresun, and so was I, Ibrahim Öztürk. My parents went to Berlin as guest-workers as early as 1970. I followed them only 9 years later, after having successfully finished the school in my home town. When I arrived in Germany, I first took lessons in an adult education centre, and later I began to work very hard for my dream: Having an own business. At the early age of 17 I already dreamt of becoming my own boss, a dream to come true only much time later. But this aim was only to achieve through much effort and strict discipline.

Only in 1990 – after nine years of hard work, for of them in a Turkish snack bar and five in a bakery – I got the possibility to open my own business. I made my first experiences as businessman with a simple greengrocery which I had taken over with the help of a friend. After some time the range of products extended to meat and also other foodstuffs and my brother Osman Halis joined me, after having successfully finished his apprenticeship of motorcar mechanics. We always remained true to our principle to offer proper, highly qualitative and fresh goods to convenient prices – and the growing Turkish and German clientele honoured this: in 1996 we opened our second store in Hauptstraße 147.

Yet the growing afflux of our happy clientele required further capacities: a bigger surface and an own car park – just as a German supermarket which at that time had already materialized almost in front of us. But two years later, it closed its counters definitely and so we could fulfil our dream and rent the store of our actual address, Hauptstraße 16.

Since then, we got a good reputation with Oz-Gida in the food industry. On a surface of 1500 m2 we offer our customers a wide range of products like no other does: Along with our Turkish food, we also offer German, Arabic, Russian, Balkan, Greek, Indian and far eastern specialities. Furthermore, we have a bakery, delicatessen section and a butcher’s shop, as well as many sorts of deep frozen foods.
